Tomás Ybarra-Frausto is a scholar of Chicano arts and culture. He was a tenured professor at Stanford University in the department of Spanish and Portuguese and has published extensively in aesthetics and literature. He has served in many professional capacities, including Associate Director of Creativity and Culture, Rockefeller Foundation; Chair, Mexican Museum, San Francisco; Senior Fellow, Hemispheric Institute; Member, Smithsonian Council; and, has been honored with “The Order of the Aztec Eagle,” received from the Mexican government for fostering cultural understanding. He returned from many years in New York City to his native San Antonio in 2009, where he continues working with national and local cultural institutions.
